How to:

create your parish council playground

Where do I start?

As a local authority leader, you have the brilliant task of creating a new playground for your domain. Whether you're a city planner or a parish councillor, big or small, we know it can feel overwhelming to get this right, especially with all the voices to consider.

You might be thinking - where do I even start? - And, who can I trust? -  Are they right? - This project may be, in addition to your day job, one more thing on your to-do list, and as such we’re here to help you through this process and mediate if needed.

Our goal is to make this project fun for everyone involved, not just the kids.

To begin, let's start considering what you would like to accomplish, what makes your local area unique? What kind of Playground would suit the space? What problems would you expect to encounter? Is there a focus on attracting new families to the area? What can the budget afford and how can my community get funding? If you’re thinking like this, you're on the right track.

We can't design and build your perfect playground without fully understanding more about what you’d like to achieve, and that starts with a conversation…

What do we need to know?

We want to speak to you, whether through call or email, tell us what's important to you and your community, your challenges, your objectives and the space you’d like to create. It’s at this point we can understand your local area and what you’d like to achieve. Together we’ll make your community (and play area) the heart of the parish/town/city.

But before we get to design, let's get all these great ideas down on paper. The more we talk, the more we will understand the project and be able to create something truly special.

We ask details, which include:

  • Space, location, surfacing
  • Age and ability of the children
  • Must haves, wants and wishes
  • Bringing your community and ethos into the design, tailored to you
  • Your time frames, when works for you and when doesn’t.
  • Budgets and funding - don’t worry if you haven’t got this in place just yet, we can help with this (and we’ve got some really useful information and tips on our fund raising page).

By now, we’ll have a clear understanding of all your requirements which means we can put together a detailed brief. This is a short document to describe all that we have discussed, what your requirements are, what you want to achieve, and the specifics. Something for us to both refer back to. This is our opportunity to make sure we’re all on the same page, once we’ve all agreed, time for the design!

What will our play area look like?

Using the brief, we’ll draw up an initial concept design and send it back your way. And, just to say, we may not get it right the first time, but that’s all part of the process.

We’ll work together to review the design, listen to your feedback on what you like, and what you don’t, and make any changes. This a great opportunity to share at your next community meeting, it will get them excited about their future play area and help gather further feedback.

Through this process, you’ll be able to see your space come to life!

Super… Everyone loves the design and the funds are in place. We really hope you can’t wait for the big day to arrive as much as we can, pop the date in your calendar and let the countdown begin!

*Remember we are flexible around your schedule, you just tell us when*

How do you build/install your play equipment?

Our workshop team will get straight to work, most of the build is done behind the scenes to minimise disruption on the day.

Finally, the moment your community has been waiting for. We will arrive in good time and get straight to work - all we need from your side is access to the site. Time to install. We’ll work diligently, only stopping for a quick tea break and answering any question, never compromising on quality or safety, your dream playground will appear before your very eyes.

And, just like that, we’re done! Safe and Secure. No fuss or stress. Enjoy kids!

What about wear, tear, and maintenance?

Now the play area is finally ready, and kids are using and abusing it, this is where your need for lasting quality and sturdiness has proven to be a great decision.

To make sure they’ve got as many years of play & enjoyment ahead as possible, thanks to the unrivalled quality of our tradesmen and timber, your new play area benefits from a 12-month guarantee against all workmanship defects and a 20-year guarantee against timber failure. This means a complete piece of mind and knowledge that’ll last for years to come.

However, we’re no dreamers, and as much as it pains us to say it, sometimes, no matter how infrequently, things do go wrong - we know a problem shared is a problem halved - that's why we want you to let us know as soon as possible to make sure we’re there to help resolve the issue. We can provide advice, and resources, or if you’d prefer us to maintain your playground, that’s no problem, we offer maintenance packages to suit your needs.

These are all the things you’d expect when choosing Home Front, we think these should go without saying, but if you’d like to learn more about why we are so trusted and respected in our industry then look no further. But don't just take our word for it - see what are customers have to say as well - check out our reviews & testimonials.
